For Fintech founders

Engineering for
Fintech Founders

Most agencies pitching fintech founders haven't shipped a real ledger. They've shipped a payment integration. Those are different problems and confusing them in your build is how you end up debugging double-counted transactions in production.

Fintech founders compete with banks and incumbents who can ship roadmap items in quarters, not years. Your edge is shipping in weeks. Lose that and the moat is gone.

Stack we use

Compliance

We build SOC 2-friendly defaults. We don't manage the SOC 2 audit itself — that's a separate workstream with auditors. We won't ship PCI Level 1 in scope; that's a multi-month dedicated engagement.

Why fintech builds are different

Same engagement model.
Industry-specific defaults.

We don't pretend a generic SaaS stack ships fintech at v1. The pain points below are what most builds in your industry get wrong on the first try — we wire them correctly from commit one.

The pain points

What breaks at v1 in fintech

Each of these is something we've watched founders get wrong on the first build. We ship the correct version on day one.

01

Ledger correctness

Real ledgers are append-only, reconcilable, double-entry. Most startup fintech ships a regular SQL table with a balance column. It works until someone reverses a transaction wrong and reconciliation diverges. We default to event-sourced ledgers from day one.

02

Stripe / Plaid / Marqeta integration depth

Webhook reliability, idempotency, race conditions on dispute updates. Done wrong, a 0.1% failure rate becomes thousands of dollars of stuck customer balances per month.

03

KYC / AML provider plumbing

Onboarding flows that need real-time KYC (Persona, Onfido, Alloy) with proper failure routing, manual review queues, and audit trails. Not the demo-quality version that 80% of fintech MVPs ship.

04

Fraud rules and velocity checks

Rules engines that evolve as your fraud surface evolves. We build with config-driven rules from v1 instead of hardcoding three checks in a controller.

What we ship

Concretely,
by handoff.

The work you'd hand a salaried fintech engineer — done end to end on a flat-price engagement.

  • Event-sourced ledger with double-entry semantics from commit one
  • Stripe + Plaid + Marqeta integrations with proper webhook handling
  • KYC / AML provider integrations with reviewable audit trails
  • Fraud rule engine with config-driven velocity checks
  • Customer admin + internal admin separated cleanly

FAQ

Common fintech questions

Can you ship something that passes a SOC 2 Type 1 in 6 months?

+
Yes, with the caveat that SOC 2 is also about operational practices — access reviews, change management, log retention. We build code that satisfies the technical controls. We refer you to a SOC 2 audit firm for the rest.

Do you do crypto / DeFi?

+
We build the off-chain side — admin, UI, off-chain accounting. We don't audit Solidity contracts. For on-chain work, we'd refer you to a specialist auditor.

PCI scope?

+
We design to keep your code out of PCI scope (tokenize at Stripe Elements, never touch raw card data). Full PCI Level 1 implementation is out of scope for our standard engagements.
