The gravitational pull got stronger too: Musk moved X Corp's headquarters to the Austin area in 2024, and xAI subleased a chunk of downtown's Seaholm Power Plant for its chip program in 2026. Austin's fund landscape got deeper in late 2025: S3 Ventures closed a $250M Fund VIII that December — its 20th year — with roughly half earmarked specifically for Texas founders. The flip side of the boom is a real correction underway: Bumble cut 240 jobs, about 30% of its global headcount, in June 2025, and Indeed and Glassdoor cut roughly 1,300 more between them. That's not a footnote — it's a chunk of the senior engineering talent pool you're competing for right now, mid-layoff. On the infrastructure side, Arm is expanding its Austin campus, already its largest U.S. site, with a new semiconductor lab backed by a $4.16M state grant and 320+ new jobs.
